Types of Departmental Fellowships

 

1. Dissertation writing fellowships (either during the academic year or during summer)-
2. Major Fellowships-Major fellowships cover conference travel and research stipends- highest priority is travel to two major conferences in your field during the dissertation-writing period, For in-state conferences up to $500 for out of state or international conferences normally up to $800.

Special Academic Support Fellowships-  special one-time support for coursework or research expenses.  Exceptional or critical need.  Open to all REL students.
The Catherine Coudert Gottesman Distinguished Graduate Fellowship- supports Summer work on a distinctively cross-disciplinary research project, normally leading to a dissertation on that topic. It can be granted to a Religious Studies graduate student in their second or any subsequent year.

3. Mini-Fellowships- Mini-fellowships cover expenses for specialized skill building.  (Travel for coursework vital to your individually tailored training, meetings demonstrably important to network-building and career development including with potential recommenders and collaborators and travel to useful workshops and colloquia. Award is for $500-$1000.

  • Am I eligible for financial assistance for Childcare costs? See http://worklife-wellness.ucdavis.edu/family_care/children/financialassistance.html for information on the different childcare subsidies to learn which one(s) you may qualify for.
  • How do I get credit (units) for my work as a TA? 50% TAs may sign up for 4 units of RST 396.  You will receive the CRN each quarter from Maria Ruby.  Make sure to sign up for the section led by your TA Supervisor.
  • How do I sign up for an independent study (REL 299, 299D)?  Complete this Variable Unit Course Request form after meeting with the instructor you wish to do independent study with.  Once you receive approval of the request, please contact Maria Ruby for a course registration number (CRN).
    Students who wish to petition for an REL 299 to count as fulfilling a degree requirement within the RAOS, TAOS or AOC, need to submit the request form, along with the course syllabus, for review by the Program Committee. Please send the form and syllabus to Maria Ruby for processing. Course petition form
